This tool provides a representation of human thermal comfort in the Melbourne Local Government Area. The analysis and visualisation are underpinned by data from the City of Melbourne and shows streets and spaces that are relatively cooler to help you plan safe and comfortable journeys through the city.
Green and blue infrastructure refers to green walls, green roofs, tree pits, stormwater harvesting systems, urban gardens and nature based solutions to manage the impacts of climate change.

The thermal comfort model factors in thermal properties of different surface types and the accumulation of solar radiation across the day. Detailed shadow analysis using the City of Melbourne's Digital Surface Model (DSM) is also undertaken.

Define journey start and end points
Define the start and end point of your journey by 'clicking' locations on the map (first click start point and second end point). Alternatively search for an address or point on interest in the search box. Start and end points can be 'drag and dropped' or subsequest map clicks will set a new position
Alternative routes
If more than one practical route exists you can toggle between them here.
Select a time for your journey
By default the tool presents the coolest route for 2PM (14:00) in the afternoon. You can select different times across the day or the shortest route using the time picker.
Turn on and off 3D Buildings
3D buildings can be toggled on and off.
Toggle basemaps
Switch between the thermal comfort basemap and streets style.
Toggle journey modes
Switch between a walking and cycling journey.
